Symphony Together: Community Side-by-Side

During our 2026 summer programming, we had the privilege and joy of welcoming musicians of our Hawai‘i community to join the stage with your Hawai‘i Symphony Orchestra conducted by Dane Lam. Community members signed up for their instrument slot and participated in three rehearsals before the culminating performance on July 16th.

“The entire experience from top to bottom was amazing. [Maestro Lam] was so approachable and welcoming and of course his talent and skill... Well, let's just say I learned a lot! My stand partner Shawn Conley was phenomenal as well. So patient, kind and helpful, Shawn is the definition of professional…. After meeting my heros, they indeed exceeded my high expectations! Bravo HSO!”

“Being on the stage of the Blaisdell Concert Hall was special and it gave me a perspective I would never ever get to have.”

Symphony in the Park

Presented by Alexander & Baldwin

Each year, the Hawai‘i Symphony Orchestra brings an evening of music to Kailua District Park. Families gather on the lawn with blankets, lawn chairs, and picnic dinners to enjoy a mix of classical masterpieces and popular favorites from the stage and screen, performed under the open sky.

Admission is always free and open to the public, and the concert is designed to be enjoyed by music lovers of all ages.

Symphony in the Park is made possible in part by Alexander & Baldwin, a sponsor of the concert since 2014. Their long-standing partnership reflects a shared belief that great music should be accessible to the entire community, and it has helped make this evening a cherished Windward tradition.

Beyond the Music

Beyond the Music is the Hawai‘i Symphony Orchestra's one-hour Saturday morning concert series, designed to be welcoming for the whole family. Each performance is connected to a Masterworks Series concert, offering a shorter, more approachable way to experience the music featured on our main stage.

Come early and make a morning of it. Interactive, hands-on experiences in the lobby invite keiki and the young at heart to try real instruments at the Hawai‘i Youth Symphony Instrument Zoo, meet community partners, and explore the stories and ideas behind the music.

Then take your seat for a concert of about an hour, with selections drawn from the Masterworks program, from sweeping orchestral showpieces to works inspired by places, history, and culture. Some performances are followed by a conversation with composers, guest artists, or community voices, offering a closer look at the inspiration behind the music.

Beyond the Music is an easy, welcoming way to introduce anyone to live symphonic music, and a chance to learn, play, and connect together.
