Violin Concerto

DAI-KEONG LEE

Symphony No. 9, Op. 125, in D minor, “Choral”

LUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN

*Program and artists are subject to change

As the world marks 200 years since Beethoven's death, the Hawaiʻi Symphony Orchestra honors the moment with the work that defines his legacy. Symphony No. 9, written in the composer’s total deafness, its choral finale still the most electrifying cry for unity and triumph in all of music, stands as the definitive celebration of this once-in-a-generation milestone. Violinist Jennifer Koh joins the stage with the lyrical brilliance and bold expression of Hawai’i’s own Dai-Keong Lee. Born and raised on these islands and once celebrated across the nation before being lost to time, this Chinese-American composer is being rediscovered through the Hawaiʻi Symphony Orchestra’s commitment to reviving music that was born here in Hawaiʻi.A landmark year. A landmark evening.
