HSO x HYS Side-By-Side
Intro
A Collaboration between Hawaiʻi Youth Symphony and the Hawaiʻi Symphony Orchestra:
Side-by-Side programs are joint initiatives of professional orchestras and youth orchestras; a chance for aspiring young musicians to play in the “major leagues” for a night or two. Students and pros become stand partners and sit side-by-side.
Our summer Side-by-Side concert will be the first for the Pacific Music Institute, performed at the Neal S. Blaisdell Concert Hall. We are proud to collaborate with the Hawaii Youth Symphony on this special project and invite all to come attend the performances!
Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, the Hawaiʻi Youth Symphony and your Hawaiʻi Symphony Orchestra are pleased to offer these concerts FREE to the public. No tickets or RSVP needed.

KeʻAlohi International Piano Competition – Final Round
Intro
The triennial Ke’alohi International Piano Competition has been created by its parent organization, Aloha International Piano Festival, with the hope of inspiring and engaging the local community, while gracing the international stage in Hawaii with world-class piano playing.
Previously, it seemed an impossible goal to create – in a state widely known for its hula, ukulele and beaches – a major world-class international piano competition on par with existing prominent competitions around the world. In June 2022, the inaugural Ke’alohi International Piano Competition achieved this far-reaching goal. In the Hawaiian language, Ke’alohi means “brightest star”.
It is said that this brightest star can only be seen during a certain time of the year. Through the Ke’alohi International Piano Competition, we will discover a bright star who will share their artistry and shine in beautiful Hawaii. Over $30,000 in cash prizes will be awarded and finalists will perform a complete concerto with the Hawaiʻi Symphony Orchestra for the final round.
